TPI extends blade supply deals with GE through 2025 and will partner on new designs
TPI CEO says agreements could result in vendor adding more production lines in 2023 beyond the nine in place that presently supply leading US market OEM
TPI Composites has extended its blade supply agreements through 2025 with GE Renewable Energy, and the two companies will collaborate on the wind turbine OEM’s next generation blade types.
“We appreciate the opportunity to expand our long-standing relationship with TPI through this strategic supplier agreement, which enables GE to continue providing competitive, high tech wind turbines to our customers,” said GE Onshore Wind CEO, Vic Abate.
TPI has manufactured wind blades for GE since 2008. In November, the two companies announced a development deal for blades in the US market that enabled TPI to secure a 10-year lease extension of its manufacturing facility in Newton, Iowa.
TPI CEO Bill Siwek said collaboration with GE on next generation designs will grow production for the OEM in the US and internationally “to continue to enable a cost-effective wind blade supply”.
This partnership could result in TPI adding more production lines in 2023, in addition to the nine production lines GE has in operation today with the vendor.
GE is the leading wind turbine OEM in the US, the world’s second largest wind power market after China.
