French oil major TotalEnergies confirmed its split with offshore wind developer Simply Blue in their joint venture (JV) Deep Blue Pacific that had targeted floating development along the US Pacific Northwest state of Oregon.

“Our TotalEnergies SBE US, LLC, indeed ceased its ventures following a shift in the parent companies’ global offshore wind strategies,” Marie Maitre, TotalEnergies’ US head of external relations, told Recharge.

Ireland-based Simply Blue declined to add comment.

The US JV was formed in 2022 to leverage the emerging Oregon floating wind play. It submitted proposals for some 3GW of capacity in call areas identified by federal regulators for wind power development.
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has since set two wind energy areas (WEAs) holding some 3.2GW of capacity off the state, with a lease auction set for 15 October this year, but there was no sign of Deep Blue Pacific in the line-up of potential contenders.

TotalEnergies has made a big push into the US, including buying a $795m lease in the New York Bight in the record-setting 2022 federal round.

The developer confirmed that it has resubmitted its Attentive Energy 1 project with partners Corio and local utility Rise Light & Power that was awarded by New York in 2023 but voided this year due to turbine supplier challenges.

TotalEnergies and Corio are also partners on the 1.3GW Attentive Energy 2 to New Jersey likewise based in the Bight lease.

“The renewable energy sector, and in particular offshore wind, continues to evolve and holds tremendous potential for sustainable growth and helping the US meet its clean power goals,” said Maitre.

“TotalEnergies’ commitment in the growing US offshore wind industry is evident by the deep roots we are establishing across New Jersey,” she added.

TotalEnergies also owns a lease in the Carolina Long Bay WEA off North Carolina that it won in BOEM’s 2022 auction for $160m.

TotalEnergies and Simply Blue are also partnered on the UK-based Blue Gem JV with two floating wind projects under development, the 100MW Erebus and the 300MW Valorous arrays in the Celtic Sea off Wales.
