Belgian offshore wind developer Parkwind and local infrastructure firm Intrakat have teamed up to jointly develop wind at sea in Greece.

The two companies have signed an agreement under which Parkwind will contribute with its offshore development experience from northern Europe, while Intrakat is slated to bring in local infrastructure experience. Intrakat is a unit of Greek construction holding Intracom.

“With a partner like Intrakat, we know that we have what it takes to offer Greece the best of offshore wind,” Parkwind co-chief executive François Van Leeuw said.

“The complementary nature of our partnership is the key to developing a value proposition that can kick-start offshore wind in Greece.”

Petros Souretis, Intrakat’s CEO & Loukas Lazarakis, Inkat Energy’s CEO, added: "As part of Intrakat’s Group growth and investment strategy in renewable energy, we are moving into an important and extremely dynamic, I believe, strategic partnership with Parkwind, an innovative company with a leading position in the field of offshore wind farms.

“Greece, within the next years will develop this type of wind farms, which has obvious, multiple benefits, on a large scale.”

Greece so far has no offshore wind power, but several key players are lining up for what could become a promising market primarily for floating wind due to the country’s deep waters.

Offshore wind pioneer Hexicon in April had forged a tie-up with Greek outfit EAMAA to explore building floating projects off the southern European nation, while heavyweight Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) last year teamed up with conglomerate Mytilineos to work together on development of offshore wind projects in the country.
