Offshore wind big hitter Hannibal joins Stiesdal to speed floating push

Wind industry big hitter Michael Hannibal has joined floating technology pioneer Stiesdal Offshore as chief commercial officer.

Hannibal will remain a partner at Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) as well as taking on the new role at the Danish group, which is working to scale-up and commercialise a new generation of floating wind technology.

Hannibal has been active in offshore wind for more than two decades, including seven years leading activities in the sector for wind turbine giant Siemens Gamesa. He joined CIP in 2017 to lead its global offshore wind push.

Announcing the appointment, Stiesdal Offshore said: “Michael steps into a key role helping to shape our market strategy, strengthen our partner network, and ensure commercial execution. His experience and eye for scaling will be instrumental in delivering on our mission: to reduce cost and complexity in floating wind projects.”

Hannibal said of his new role: “I’m looking forward to collaborating with developers, suppliers and regulatory bodies to move floating offshore wind forward being a natural part of the energy mix in many countries. I’m joining Stiesdal with a strong ambition of accelerating Stiesdal Offshore as a market leader within floating offshore.”
