Wind turbine manufacturer Nordex continued with its successful business in Latin America, receiving 245MW in combined orders from Brazil and Chile.

Norway’s renewables giant Statkraft placed an 80MW order for the Morro do Cruzeiro wind farm in the north-eastern state of Bahia.

The OEM will supply and install 14 of its N163/5.X turbines in a 5.7MW operating mode for the project in the municipality of Brotas de Macaúbas in a mountain area.

Installation on 120-metre concrete towers is scheduled for the mid-2023. Nordex will manufacture the nacelles, hubs, rotor blades and towers locally in Brazil.

Nordex last year already had a streak of wind turbine orders in Latin America, which accounted for 18% of its order intake during the first nine months of 2021, coming in second only after its European home region.

The company also received a 165MW order for a wind project by an unnamed developer in Chile.

Nordex will supply 29 of its N163/5.X machines to the project in the Southern Cone country, with delivery and installation of the turbines scheduled in late 2022, with commissioning foreseen for the end of this year.
