The German OEM said Nordex reached more than a gigawatt in wind turbine orders each in Turkey and North America last year, as it announced a flurry of sales that also included projects in Spain and Greece.

The company received orders for a total of 97 turbines in the fourth quarter of last year from Turkey, with a combined capacity of 638MW, cementing its dominant position in the country, where it has been leader since 2017 with over 30% market share.

Turkey is one of the fastest-growing renewable energy markets, with a target to quadruple the expansion of wind and solar energy to 120GW by 2035.

In North America, the manufacturer also broke through the 1GW order barrier in 2024 after receiving orders for 36 of its N163/6.X machines with a nominal output of 7MW for projects in Canada that had a combined capacity of 247MW.

"With these new orders, the Nordex Group has passed 1GW of sales from North America in 2024. This 350% increase over the previous year demonstrates Nordex’s continued growth in the North American market,” said Nordex North America CEO Manav Sharma.

“As we ramp up manufacturing at our factory in West Branch, Iowa in 2025, that success is well-poised to continue.”

The turbines are destined for a project in Nova Scotia by an unnamed client and will be supplied in the spring of next year in a cold-climate variant. Some are also equipped with an anti-icing system for rotor blades.

Nordex in recent years has also been very successful in Europe’s Nordic countries, where cold-climate versions of wind turbines are needed due to freezing temperatures during the winter.

The manufacturer in December also received orders totalling 259MW from different customers across Spain for its 5.X and 6.X platforms. Installation at the Spanish wind farms is slated to take place this year, with commissioning expected for the end of 2025.

"Adding the orders received last summer for the large-scale Baza Cluster project with 265MW, Nordex Group received new orders with a total volume of over 524MW last year in Spain,” Nordex chief sales officer Patxi Landa said.

“The proven success of our N163 turbines continues to pay off and continues to consolidate our good market position in the country.”

Nordex also won a 100MW order from PPC Renewables for 19 of its N149/5.X turbines for the Rodopi, Livadaki, and Timenio wind farms in Greece, a market where it also has surpassed the 1GW order threshold, albeit not in one year but since it re-entered the market in 2028.
