Nordex has appointed its chief transformation officer, Manav Sharma, as new CEO of its North American business, with the aim to expand its activities in the US, starting with the launch of a turbine tailored to the requirements of the American market.

Sharma will assume his post on 1 June 2024. John McComas, who has been leading activities in the North America region since April 2021, will assume the newly created position of chief operating officer (COO) for the region.

“Having strengthened our market position in Europe, we will now add focus on our efforts in the North American arm of our business,” said Nordex CEO José Luis Blanco.

“The appointment of Manav Sharma, a highly experienced and valued colleague of our global executive management team, reflects the strategic importance of North America for us.

“With him and his team leading the launch of our US turbine and accelerating the ongoing supply chain transformation, we will be well-positioned to benefit from expected growth in both the US and Canadian markets.”

The company as early as in the middle of this year plans to launch a wind turbine variant with an optimised capacity factor for US project conditions and designed to significantly increase yield in pure grid-constrained projects.

The OEM also plans to expand its local supply chain in the US to ensure its customers can benefit from local manufacturing credit in accordance with the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

Before becoming CTO, Sharma had worked as COO at Nordex, responsible for the company’s global operations. He is also a former CFO of former German wind turbine manufacturer Senvion.
