Nordex has won a 472MW order for 70 of its N175/6.X wind turbines equipped with cold climate adaptation from Swedish developer OX2 for two wind projects in Finland.

The new orders represent the first investment decision in the Nordic region for the latest variant of the Detla4000 series.

"We are very pleased to have been awarded the contracts to supply our latest and most powerful turbine type for these large projects - now for the first time also in the Nordics,” Nordex CEO José Luis Blanco said.

“This is a testament to our many years of experience in developing turbines for cold climates and now with 15 years of experience with our very competitive and reliable anti-icing system.

“It is relevant for us to be part of shaping Finland's clean and sustainable future by providing this cutting-edge technology to OX2.”

Delivery and installation of the wind turbines are scheduled for 2026 and 2027, and the Honkakangas and Rajamäenkylä wind farms are slated to be commissioned in 2027 and 2028.

The 16 units for Honkakangas in addition will be equipped with an anti-icing system for rotor blades to ensure high availability of the machines during moderate-heavy icing conditions.

The cold climate adaptation and anti-icing system feature has been key to the significant sales success of Nordex in the Nordic countries in recent years.

OX2 becomes independent power producer

OX2 said it will invest €700m ($756m) in the two wind farms in Karijoki and Isojoki (Rajamäenkylä) and Halsua (Honkakangas) municipalities in western Finland. The projects are the first to remain under the developer’s operational ownership

“We are proud to be making the largest renewable energy investment in Finland,” OX2 CEO Paul Stormoen said.

“This is an important market for OX2, and we look forward to more great renewable projects in the Nordics.

“This investment is also an important step in growing our portfolio as an independent power producer.”
