First wind power fires up at Indian billionaire Adani's 30GW renewable mega-project
When completed the vast renewable energy project will feature 26GW of solar and 4GW of wind power generation
The first wind power has come online at a 30GW Indian green power project, claimed as the world’s biggest, that is being developed by the group owned by local business titan Gautam Adani.
Adani Group’s Adani Green Energy announced today that it has brought online the first 250MW of wind capacity at the burgeoning renewables complex located at Khavda, Gujarat state.
That brings the total online capacity at the green mega-project to 2.25GW, with the rest being solar capacity that has come online in the last year.
Adani Green says its total capacity of online wind and solar plants across its broader portfolio now stands at 11.2GW. It is pursuing a plan to generate 50GW of renewable power by 2030.
The 5.2MW turbines being used at Khavda are, Adani Green claims, the largest in India and were manufactured by Adani New Industries.
When completed the Khavda plant will consist of 4GW of wind and 26GW of solar capacity, which Adani Green says will be enough to power 16.1 million homes.
Adani Green has said Khavda will be the “largest renewable energy installation in the world.” It is based in a region the company says has one of the best wind and solar resources in the country.
Adani Green Energy is the renewables arm of Adani Group, owned by billionaire founder and chairman Gautam Adani.
Adani Group and its companies are recovering from a tough 2023 that saw their shares hit hard by claims of wide-ranging financial irregularities made by a US research group, which the Indian conglomerate and its directors have strongly denied.
