China’s Envision has continued its recent strong momentum in the Indian wind market with a 578MW turbine order.

Envision will sell the EN156-3.3MW turbines to London-headquartered Hero Future Energies, an independent power producer in India.

The deal is part of a wider framework agreement under which Envision will also supply battery energy storage systems and green hydrogen technologies to Hero.

Envision’s managing director for India, RPV Prasad, called the partnership a "momentous step" in helping "leverage the potential in wind-rich states across India."

We are well placed to support HFE’s formidable presence in India and a growing global footprint complemented by our global supply chain strengths.

Nacelles and hubs for the turbines will be assembled at its factory in the Indian city of Pune, while blades will be made at its Trichy facility, he said, while tower components will come from "approved manufacturers based out of India."

Prasad said the order for the EN156-3.3MW turbines is a “major milestone” as the Chinese OEM has now sold over 7GW of the model.

Envision – named in a Wood Mackenzie report as the most successful Chinese exporter of wind turbines – has taken an increasingly dominant role in the Indian wind market, with 3GW of turbine orders last year.
Envision has told Recharge this represented 45% of all turbine orders in 2023 in the highly competitive Indian wind market, ahead of local player Suzlon on 31%.

Envision also reported taking on 1GW of new orders in the first three months of 2024 – putting it on track to beat last year's total.

One of those orders was a deal to sell 91 of its EN 156-3.3MW turbines to Indian renewables developer Juniper Green Energy in a 300MW turbine order.
Envision now has an annual production capacity of 3GW for nacelles and hubs and 2.5GW for blades in India having boosted capacity following its success in the country.

Its hot streak dates back to 2022, when it secured an order for 596 of its EN 156/3.3MW turbines – claimed to be the largest yet deployed in India at that time – to an unnamed customer.
