Cadeler celebrates post-merger era with contract to install 14MW turbines on Poland's Baltica 2 array

Offshore wind specialist Cadeler has been chosen to install 14MW wind turbines on Orsted and PGE's flagship Baltica 2 wind farm in Poland, in a first major contractual win since its merger with former rival Eneti.

The transport and installation services company will put in place a 1.5GW array of Siemens Gamesa turbines that is scheduled to enter into full operation by the end of 2027.

An earlier contract to supply 77-super-sized monopiles for the Baltica 2 array was awarded to the Navantia Seanergies-Windar consortium last year. The monopiles will have a maximum length of 110 metres, a weight of over 2,000 tonnes and a diameter of more than 11 metres.

Baltica 2 will be located more than 25km offshore between the Polish Baltic Sea towns of Leba and Ustka. It will form part of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm.

The orders came after Orsted and PGE succeeded in convincing the Polish government to allow for retroactive changes to their contract for difference (CfD) for the project to take into account a fundamentally altered energy market in Europe and a depreciation of the Zloty.

"The project marks a very important milestone for Poland as well as for Cadeler, as this underlines Cadeler’s strong entry into the Polish market,” commented Mikkel Gleerup, CEO of the Copenhagen-headquartered company.

Celebrating a dual listing on New York and Oslo bourses last December, Gleerup said the merged company would offer customers "the most flexible, most diverse, and modern fleet of windfarm installation vessels".

Moray West

In another installation milestone this week, Belgian marine contractor DEME installed a first supersized monopile under its contract with Ocean Winds covering Scotland's 882MW Moray West wind farm.

DEME is using the offshore installation vessel Orion for installation of monopiles and transition pieces, using vibro hammer technology to minimise environmental impact from vibrations.
In October last year, Dutch contractor Boskalis installed the first monopile for Moray West using its Bokalift2 heavy crane vessel and installed the first substation platform in December using the Bokalift1.
Wind turbine installation will be carried out using Cadeler’s Pacific Orca jack-up vessel, which has been engaged through Siemens Gamesa under a typical wrapped transition service agreement (TSA) structure.
