Danish wind turbine giant Vestas has extended an existing frame agreement with Brazil's Aeris Energy until the end of 2028, offering a potential $1.6bn boost to Latin America's biggest blade manufacturer.

In a statement announcing an amendment to an earlier supply deal, Aeris said the new agreement "provides for an increase in the potential supply of wind blades of various models in a capacity equivalent to 8.8GW, considering the renegotiation of the contracted volumes for 2024".

Aeris added that the new contract is expected to result in a net increase in revenues of up to 7.6bn Brazilian reais ($1.6bn) by the end of 2028.

"We are excited about the partnership with Vestas and the long-term growth prospects for the wind energy sector," said Alexandre Negrao, CEO of Aeris.

The company has two fabrication facilities located in Pecem, an industrial port facility in northeastern Brazil.

In its statement, released today (Monday), Aeris said it has so far delivered wind blades resulting in more than 8.5GW of power to Vestas under the supply contract signed in 2015.

These orders were for both Brazilian and export markets, Aeris said, with exports accounting for 7.4% of its total revenue in 2022.

Aeris was founded in 2010 by a group of engineers from the aerisonautics sector.

The company also became a supplier in Brazil to Siemens Gamesa in 2021, initially as a sub-contractor to LM Wind Power, a unit of GE Renewable Energy.

US unit

In addition to wind blades, Aeris has a specialised inspection and maintenance services division for wind turbines.

Aeris Service was created in 2013 in Brazil and formed a US subsidiary since 2018. In addition to services such as preventive and corrective maintenance, photographic inspections, painting, cleaning, and repairs, the company also runs a specialised training centre.
