China’s Envision has continued to assert its dominance in the Indian wind power market that is key to its global ambitions, as it picks up a massive order for its turbines from a local utility.

CESC announced yesterday that its subsidiary, Purvah Green Power Private, signed a framework agreement with Envision to supply and commission 1GW of turbines, according to local media reports.

The deal also reportedly includes operation and maintenance services for a decade post-commissioning.

CESC, which stands for Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation, is a utility engaged in the generation and distribution of electricity.

Envision is one of the world’s leading turbine-makers and the most successful Chinese supplier of turbines internationally, not least due to its Indian success.

Envision has in recent years asserted increasing dominance over the massive Indian onshore wind market, with an estimated 41% market share in 2024.

The OEM manufactures turbine blades at a factory in Trichy, an ancient city in India's southern state of Tamil Nadu; and nacelles at another site in Pune, a city in the state of Maharashtra.

It is unclear which turbine model or models Envision will supply CESC under their deal. Envision has been hugely successful with its EN156-3.3MW model in India; and last year launched an updated 5MW model for the market.
Envision picked up another gigascale order in January for its new 5MW turbine in India from another local developer.
