RWE names CEO 'for age of electrification'
Incumbent Krebber to stay at German utility giant for another five years
German power giant RWE said Markus Krebber will stay as its CEO until 2031.
The RWE board moved early to extend Krebber’s contract for another five years saying he had since taking the top job in 2021 “steered RWE through times of geopolitical turmoil with a steady hand and contributed significantly to overcoming the energy crisis”.
Chairman Frank Appel said: “Thanks to its broad technological and regional scope, the group is now ideally placed to capitalise on the growth resulting from rising electricity demand and electrification.”
Krebber, who has worked for RWE since 2012, said: “The age of electrification and artificial intelligence offers excellent conditions for profitable growth and sustainable value enhancement at RWE.”
RWE is one of the world’s largest renewable energy operators with about 18GW of wind and solar in place by the end of last year.
The German group claims to be global number two in offshore wind with more than 3GW installed and major projects in the UK, Germany and elsewhere.
It also remains a major operator of gas in its German home market.
