Demand high and prices fall in German 3.4GW onshore wind tender
Both regular tender for wind on land and innovation tender for hybrid installations or renewable plants with storage were oversubscribed
Demand continued to be high and prices fell at Germany’s latest tender for 3.4GW in onshore wind capacity.
The tender for 3.44GW was oversubscribed with 5GW in bids coming in, the federal grids agency (BNetzA) said.
Prices for winning bids averaged €68.30 ($80.59) per megawatt hour, considerably lower than the €73.50/MWh ceiling price and lower than the average at the last similar auction.
“The tender for onshore wind turbines continues to be characterised by high participation. This is accompanied by further declining award values," BNetzA president Klaus Müller said.
"The last innovation tender round set a record: The bid volume exceeded 2GW for the first time. This shows that interest in the various forms of renewable generation on the market remains high."
The wind industry had been anxiously awaiting the outcome of the latest onshore wind tender, for which the bid deadline had already closed on 1 May.
The grids agency had held a simultaneous innovation tender for combinations of several renewable energy technologies or renewables installations with storage, offering 486MW in capacity.
The innovation auction was heavily oversubscribed, with 2GW of bids received.
The 488MW in winning bids reached an average price of €61.50/MWh, considerably lower than at a previous similar round that resulted in an average winning price of €70.90/MWh.
All winning bids were for solar plants plus storage.
