A leading Chinese supplier of wind turbine blades is planning to open a factory in Poland, after it emerged Vestas has hit pause on its own manufacturing facility in the country, along with two other sites in North America and Asia.

Aeolon Technology revealed that a Poland factory is “in planning” in a brochure distributed at the China Wind Power summit taking place in Beijing this week.

It said the same for two factories in Mexico and Vietnam.

An Aeolon representative at the event declined to provide any further details on how firm the plans are or what stage they are at.

News of Aeolon’s interest in opening a factory in Poland comes after Danish wind turbine giant Vestas shelved plans for its own blade factory in the country.

Vestas announced last year that it would build a factory in Szczecin in western Poland, with production expected to start in 2026. But that plan has now been paused due to “lower than projected demand for offshore wind in Europe.”

Aeolon this year opened a blade manufacturing facility in Morocco – its first overseas factory.

Aeolon previously said the facility would cost around 1.75bn yuan ($242m), with an annual production capacity of 600 sets of blades.

That factory itself has the potential to serve not just Morocco but the European, Middle Eastern and North American markets, according to Aeolon.

Morocco is an ideal location for Aeolon to open a factory given its proximity to key markets, which reduces transportation costs and increases interconnectedness in the industry, analysts previously told Recharge.

Aeolon is supplying German turbine making duo Nordex and Enercon from the Morocco facility. Their German compatriot Siemens Gamesa and Vestas are both expected to have strong interest in Aeolon blades, according to analysts.
