French cables giant Nexans has appointed insider Julien Hueber as its new chief executive, replacing Christopher Guérin, with immediate effect in a move intended to "create a new dynamic to further optimise performance".

Hueber, 55, was previously serving as executive managing director of the group's PWR Grid & Correct Europe, described as a €2.6bn ($3bn) business with 23 manufacturing plants.

He joined the group in 2002 and has been a member of its executive committee since 2018.

Nexans highlighted Hueber's "extensive experience in supply chain and purchasing", as well as his knowledge of the Asia-Pacific region, particularly China and South Korea, where he spent several years leading the company's APAC business.

After that he moved on to head its global industrial cables business.

Hueber will be tasked with executing the roadmap which was presented during the company's last Capital Market Day and incorporates a strategy of "targeted acceleration".

"Over the past 23 years, Julien has demonstrated exceptional leadership and a deep understanding of Nexans' business, operating model, and culture," commented Nexans chairman Jean Mouton.

"He combines a strategic vision for future technologies with a solid track record of operational excellence, as demonstrated by the remarkable acceleration of the PWR Grid & Connect business in Europe under his leadership.

In the same statement, Nexans praised Guérin for an "exceptional contribution", particularly during his seven years as CEO.

"Beyond the solid financial results, Christopher has profoundly transformed Nexans into a leader specialised in sustainable electrification, giving meaning and direction to its mission," it read.
