Macquarie launches onshore-focused Aula Energy in new addition to green power stable
Business to focus on wind, solar and batteries in Australia and New Zealand as global finance giant expands renewables offering
Global finance giant Macquarie launched an onshore renewables business called Aula Energy as the latest addition to its growing stable of clean power-focused operations.
Aula Energy will focus on development, construction and operation of wind, solar and integrated battery projects in Australia and New Zealand, with an initial 4GW of projects in the works including some 2.4GW of early-stage wind in Western Australia to be advanced in partnership with Green Wind Renewables.
It expects to start building the 372MW Boulder Creek wind farm next year.
The new business joins offshore-dedicated Corio Generation, pan-Asia-focused Blue Leaf and solar specialist Cero in Australia-based Macquarie’s array of renewables operations.
Aula will be led by Chad Hymas, a former TXU and AusNet executive who according to Macquarie “brings 20 years of experience in the energy industry across strategy, growth, regulation, operations, and finance”.
Other member of the launch team include chief projects officer Evonne Bennett, whose previous roles include strategy planning chief at Windlab and commercial director at Squadron Energy.
Lachlan Creswell, head of Macquarie Asset Management’s Green Investments team for Australia and New Zealand added: “Aula Energy offers Australian and international investors exposure to a unique and diversified portfolio at an important time for renewable energy markets in the region, in the context of increasing demand from commercial and industrial off-takers.”
