Global developer Acciona Energia said it is engaged in talks over the potential sale of 6GW of renewable energy assets.

The renewables unit of Spanish infrastructure group Acciona revealed the scope of its current discussions under its asset rotation programme as it announced the sale of a hydroelectric portfolio for €287m ($311m).

Acciona – which has a total operating base of 14GW with another 1.7GW under construction – said it is working “on several potential transactions at different stages of maturity involving assets located both in Spain and abroad, encompassing a perimeter of some 6GW of renewable capacity”.

The group does not expect to conclude deals for all the capacity but will focus on agreements where it sees the best value and fit with its strategy, said Acciona CEO Jose Manuel Entrecanales.

“We have a big amount of capacity in conversation with different buyers around the globe. There is big appetite and good quality assets… we expect to be able to close transactions within the next semester.”

Acciona kicked off the divestment programme with the sale of the 175MW of hydroelectric assets to Spanish developer Elawan.

Entrecanales claimed that moving forward Acciona Energia was "uniquely well placed" to benefit from the boom in demand to power data centres, thanks to its profile in construction as part of the wider Acciona group.

Acciona Energia reported first operating profits (Ebitda) 39% lower at €419m as it took a hit from depressed production and power prices in Spain.
